1/2 cup toor dal

1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
3-4 cups of water
For tempering:
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
A pinch of asafoetida
A few curry leaves

Wash the rice and dal together, and then soak them in water for 10-15 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
