Ingredients:
– 1 tbsp Manathakkali vathal (Sun Dried Black Nightshade Berries)
– 2 tbsp sesame oil
– 1 tsp mustard seeds
– 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds
– 1 sprig curry leaves
– 2 dried red chilies
– 1/4 tsp asafoetida
– 1 onion, finely chopped
– 2 tomatoes, chopped
– 1/4 cup tamarind extract
– 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
– 1 tbsp sambar powder
– Salt to taste
– 2 cups water

Recipe:
1. Heat 2 tbsp of sesame oil in a pan and add 1 tbsp of Manathakkali vathal. Fry until it turns crisp and set it aside.
2. In the same pan, splutter 1 tsp of mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp of fenugreek seeds, 1 sprig of curry leaves, 2 dried red chilies, and 1/4 tsp of asafoetida.
3. Add 1 finely chopped onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.
4. Add 2 chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.
5. Pour in 1/4 cup of tamarind extract and bring it to a boil.
6. Add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tbsp of sambar powder, and salt to taste. Mix well.
7. Pour in 2 cups of water and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes.
8. Add the fried Manathakkali vathal and let it simmer for another 5 minutes.
9. Serve hot with steamed rice or idli.
