Pudalangai Poricha Kootu Or Snake Gourd Kootu

– Today, I am excited to share with you the recipe for Pudalangai Poricha Kootu, also known as Snake Gourd Kootu.
– This traditional Tamil Nadu dish is a comforting and nutritious choice for any meal.

Ingredients:
– 1 cup snake gourd (pudalangai), diced
– 1/2 cup moong dal (split yellow lentils)
– 1/4 cup grated coconut
– 1 tsp cumin seeds
– 2-3 dry red chilies
– 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
– Salt to taste
– For tempering: 1 tsp oil, 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp urad dal (black gram), a few curry leaves

Recipe:
1. Cook the moong dal in a pressure cooker or pot until soft. Mash it and set aside.
2. Boil the diced snake gourd with turmeric powder and salt until tender. Drain and set aside.
3. Grind the grated coconut, cumin seeds, and dry red chilies into a fine paste.
4. Mix the cooked moong dal and snake gourd together in a pan and bring to a simmer.
5. Add the ground coconut paste and mix well. Let it simmer for a few minutes.
6. In a separate small pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves for tempering. Once the mustard seeds splutter, pour the tempering over the kootu.
7. Stir well and simmer for a few more minutes before serving.
