– Kovakkai Poriyal is a traditional Tamil dish made with ivy gourd, also known as tindora or kovakkai in Tamil.

Ingredients:
– 250g ivy gourd (kovakkai)
– 1 onion, finely chopped
– 2 green chilies, slit lengthwise
– 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
– 1 tsp red chili powder
– Salt, to taste
– 1 tbsp oil
– Mustard seeds
– Urad dal
– Curry leaves
– Freshly grated coconut (optional)

Recipe:
1. Wash the ivy gourd and cut them into thin slices.
2. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once they start to splutter, add urad dal and curry leaves.
3. Add chopped onions and green chilies, and sauté until the onions turn translucent.
4. Add the sliced ivy gourd, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
5. Cover and cook on low heat, stirring occasionally, until the ivy gourd is cooked through and starts to turn crispy around the edges.
6. If desired, add freshly grated coconut before serving.
