2. Pressure cook the toor dal with 2 cups of water until it is soft and mushy.
3. In a separate pot, add the chopped onion, green chilies, and tomato. Cook until the onions are translucent.
4. Add the chopped Honnagone soppu to the pot and cook until it wilts down.
5. Add the cooked toor dal along with turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
6. Add 1 cup of water and let the Hulisoppu simmer for 10-15 minutes.
7. In a separate small pan, heat some oil and add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and asafoetida for tempering.
8. Once the mustard seeds start to splutter, pour the tempering over the Hulisoppu and mix well.
9. Serve hot with steamed rice or chapati.
